Hello again everyone! This is my third time blogging, so we'll see if i get any better! Ha ha. Just to let everyone know, too, i'll be doing a radio show on Club Radio 100.7 FM on Thursday nights from 5-7PM every week. My radio show will be basically on the same thing as my blog, except we'll have more features like Live Interview/Performances, Trivia, and more stuff like that. So, if you know anyone who would like to be featured on either my blog, or my radio show, or both just let me know by commenting, or something like that. Well, enough about me! Without further ado I give you my blog...
This week I am going to do my "spotlight" of sorts on a group called Forget the Pacific (FTP for short). This band is comprised of three guys who are best friends, Andy Dunham who is 19 years old, and also Taylor Enzminger and Tyler Tanaka who are both 17 years old. These three young men all hail from Streeter, North Dakota. Their band, Forget the Pacific, was formerly known as a Saving the Falling, but they recently changed their name. Among the main reasons that they changed their name were because people kept thinking that they were a Christian band when they weren't, and they also thought that Saving the Falling was just generally kind of a stupid name. Their new name has a pretty interesting story behind it; Andy, Taylor, and Tyler were all born on the west coast and moved to a place they like to call "the middle of nowhere." The guys thought that this was pretty ironic so they decided FTP would be a good new name.
On their myspace page FTP states that they are currently working on a debut ep, with a producer named Stephen Short. Steven Short has worked with many big names, and among them: Kirk Allen and his band Elixir (before my time), Echo & the Bunnymen(also before my time), Genesis, Paul McCartney(from one of my favorite bands), Peter Gabriel(pretty sure i don't know who this guy is either), Queen(I used to be obsessed with them) and Wings(who??). I'm sure that someone else knows the bands that i don't; my knowledge of some music is hindered by being born only 20 years ago. Mind you, those are just SOME of the many more (DCTalk, Augustana, etc). Steven has also had songs that he has worked on go on to become chart-topping singles that have won Grammy Awards, Academy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. Short also started and operates the artist management company Ping Pong Music. I would say that this guy is a pretty big deal. Maybe that means that one day Forget the Pacific will be one of those band names that are commonly uttered, and commonly known.
Now, for the music...I would say that my favorite song that i've heard from FTP is the acoustic version of "Little War" they have on their myspace. I would compare the sound of this song (minus the acousticness) to Blink-182. FTP classifies themselves as Pop Punk/Punk Rock and I definetly agree with them on that. This would make sense because they each had at least one, if not more, member of Blink-182 listed under their "who would you like to meet," or "who is your hero" sections on myspace. The guitar and vocals definetly mimic Blink-182's, and they do a good job of accomplishing that. They have a familiar sound to them, but it's not a bad thing. Sometimes when bands sound the same as other bands it gets old, but theirs actually sounds so great that this is totally not the case.
I first heard of these guys from a flyer posted in one of the local Subways. I was in there when the person I now informally know as Andy came in and hung them up there. The more I listen to Forget the Pacific the more I like them, so if you don't know how you feel about them right away try listening to another song, or even the same song over again. All in all, I would definetly reccommend this band to any one of my friends. I'll try my best to keep everyone informed of any local shows they might have.
So, they next time your friend asks you if there's a band that they should check out don't forget to tell them about the hottest thing since bottled water- FORGET THE PACIFIC!!!!!!!
